What is Alexandrite?

Alexandrite was adopted as the national stone of tsarist Russia shortly after its discovery in 1834. Since that time, examples of this stone have been discovered in mines in Asia, Africa and South America.

Alexandrite is a hard stone (8.5/10) and seems to change colour from soft green in natural light to warm amber under indoor lights.

Alexandrite is an extremely rare and consequently valuable gemstone.
