What is Apatite?

Actually there are three different types of apatite. These are Fluorapatite, Chlorapatite, and Hydroxylapatite.

As a result this mineral comes in a wide range of hues.

Not commonly known as a jewel chiefly because it only has a hardness of 5/10 on the Mohs scale.

However there are manufacturers selling some very attractive apatite jewels. Particularly nice are the neon blue stones. More commly you will see muddy green hues and cats eyes.

In the right light a blue apatite gemstone can seem to radiate pure cyan in a spectacular manner.
