What is Aquamarine?

A form of Beryl, Aquamarine is a pale blue to green gemstone which has been valued for its use as jewelry for many centuries.

The name refers to its colour which can appear very similar to the colour of the ocean an perhaps for this reason it was formerly prized by sailors as a good luck charm.

It is fairly hard wearing crystal (7.5/10 to 8/10 Mohs scale) which polishes well and is suitable for faceting.
